Eagle Scout Service Project

Project approval

Before submitting your proposal

Begin by discussing your project idea with your unit Eagle adviser, Scoutmaster, committee chair, or another unit leader designated to assist Life Scouts.

Check the calendar for an upcoming Life to Eagle Workshop.

Use the current Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook. Complete the Project Proposal section and obtain the required signatures from:

  • The project beneficiary
  • Your unit leader
  • Your unit committee
  • The district representative

Your unit should review the proposal before it is submitted to the district.

Submit your proposal for district approval

When the proposal section is complete and the beneficiary and unit approvals have been obtained, submit it to the Middlesex District Eagle Review Team.

Important: You may not begin the project until the district representative has reviewed and approved the proposal.

 

During the Project

After receiving district approval:

  • Complete the detailed Project Plan before carrying out the project.
  • Complete the fundraising application if one is required.
  • Carry out the project while providing leadership to others.
  • Complete the Project Report after the project is finished.

Completing the Eagle Scout Requirements

Before requesting a board of review, the Scout should work with the unit to ensure that:

  • The service project and Project Report are complete.
  • All Eagle-required merit badges are complete.
  • The required position-of-responsibility period is complete.
  • All other Eagle rank requirements are complete.
  • The Scoutmaster conference has been completed.
  • The Eagle Scout Rank Application is complete.
  • The statement of ambitions and life purpose is complete.
  • Reference information has been supplied according to current council procedures.
  • The application has been submitted for council verification. To do this, reach out to Council for verification.

The project, merit badges, leadership, Scoutmaster conference, and other rank requirements must ordinarily be completed before the Scout’s 18th birthday. The board of review may occur afterward under the rules in the current Guide to Advancement.

 

Request an Eagle Scout Board of Review

Once the Scout has completed the Eagle requirements and the application has been verified according to council procedures, the unit may request a Middlesex District Eagle Scout board of review.

After the request is received, the Middlesex District Eagle Review Team will confirm the paperwork and contact the unit to arrange the board. Submitting the form does not itself confirm a board date.

Preparing for the Board

An Eagle Scout board of review is a conversation about the Scout’s experiences, growth, leadership, service project, and future—not a retest of Scouting skills. Scouts do not need a mock board of review.

The unit should ensure that the required paperwork is complete and help the Scout understand what to expect, but the Scout does not need to memorize prepared answers.

Who Participates in the Board?

An Eagle Scout board of review consists of three to six adults age 21 or older, including a district representative. Unit leaders and assistants may not serve on the board. The Scout’s parents, guardians, and relatives do not attend.
